I really can't recommend VMWare ESX and a cheap Opteron server highly enough.I'll be detailing how I'm using this in a series of posts shortly describing adventures with Oracle RAC, Solaris, and Linux, hopefully even a touch of IPv6 and iSCSI.
...and no, there isn't something wrong with my camera, thats what monitors used to be like!
Sadly, socket 940 Opterons don't have any virtualisation capabilities so theres some overhead. Hopefully newer boards and chips will drop down to a price that will allow making a home KVM or ESX lab a reality.
